We had been planning a trip to Cancun for months but hurricane wilma hit hard right before we were supposed to go, so we needed a last minute back-up plan. We surfed the web and couldn't find anything until at the last minute Grandma Diane found enough seats to get the whole gang to florida.
She went to Sanibel Island as a kid for vacations, and then took the 5J's a couple times when they were young. Now it was time for the grandkids to get the Sanibel experience. It's the 3rd best place in the world for collecting sea shells.
Every day Grandma and Grandpa put on a 'grampscamp' for an hour or two for the kids. One day they all got on bikes and rode down to a bird show. Another grampscamp was a scavenger hunt finding certain types of shells and learning what they're called.

The babies, the kids, and the grown-ups all loved hanging out at the beach.
We stayed at the Sanibel Siesta, a complex of beachfront condominiums that were very nice. A couple bedrooms in each, a nice big kitchen and living room, and the best part was a couple balconies in each one overlooking the ocean. We could even see the ocean while laying in bed. A few highlights of the trip were: eating keylime pie on the beach at sunset, gathering sea shells by the sea shore, sipping diet caffeine-free coke spiked with lime on the beach, a private boat ride with a marine biologist to a little island where we caught sea creatures (karenin caught a sea horse, a bunch of crabs, and some shrimp) and the kids held them and learned about them, sea kayaking through the mongrove forest, playing at the pool..... etc.. etc..
