Dallin had a cello recital yesterday, and he did great.

It was the annual 'graduation' recital for the local suzuki studios, and there were so many little cellists that they barely fit on the stage.

Here are a couple of his songs: Allegro by Mr. Shinichi Suzuki himself, and Rigadoon by Henry Purcell

That last copy paste shirt photo didn't do the twins justice, since it was taken and posted from my phone. So here's a couple more from the real camera:

And by the way, James turns into a statue when he's in water:

what happens in vegas

So we left our mark in vegas.. that's what happens when you risk the buffet food and end up with two kids throwing up that night and the next day (sorry Cindy!!). More specifically, Dallin left his mark right outside the bathroom door in the Mandalay Bay shark reef.

(This picture was taken just moments after the incident)

Poor Dallin -- He will probably always remember having to throw up in a large zip lock bag on the 7 hour drive home.
We're generally anti-buffet, but we were reading about our food options in a Fodor guide book, which had very good things to say about the Bellagio's buffet (kobe beef, chilean sea bass, baby squid, sushi, tandoori game hen..)
Despite the decent choices, it was still a mad house on a weekday at lunch, the decor was drab, and every buffet still has that chuckaramaesque feel to it when you have get up and fetch your own food, feeling tempted to make unwise combinations on your plate (sushi + leg of lamb + slice of pizza???)

Here are a few other highlights:

The kids got a kick out of the bellagio's chocolate fountain, but they were a little disappointed they couldn't drink from it.

we all loved hanging out in the Kurth's hot tub

and sun bathing in the super-warm-by-comparison 50-60 degree weather:

and... gambling??? wait.. get away from there, kids.

touching sting rays

The weather wasn't always warm... We got to watch Kelsey's big soccer game, but the bleachers were in the shade so it was a bit of a challenge to keep the babies warm in just their t-shirts

And now we're back home to sunny but snowy Utah.

James and Henry go to Vegas...

a brief bout of freedom Saturday, February 14, 2009

Our friend/scoutleader/wardmember extraordinaire bravely volunteered to watch the twins while we went out to dinner last night -- our first true outing sans twins. It was a magical getaway on snowy main street... and very crowded (because of the peak long weekend ski traffic)

In other news:

- Emily attended her preschool's royal valentines day ball yesterday.

- Lisa got some new wheels

- It snowed a wee bit

- James and Henry had a neck strength contest

And here is henry sticking out his tongue in a celebratory wet willy:

And some more shots -- chillin on the carpet:

The profile of james:

Stay tuned for a recipe for these

if we ever get around to typing it up

Retro Twins Thursday, February 12, 2009

Here is Henry and James in their hand-me-downs. James is wearing a shirt that used to be his Dad's? and Henry is wearing one that used to be Kevins? Grandmas, tell me if I am right or wrong. I am not sure. First pix of them both smiling!

Last night they slept a long enough stretch to give me 5.5 hours of sleep!

The kids are looking forward to their valentines parties tomorrow. Dallin and Amanda made the ipod valentines and Emily is giving lick -a-stick candy. . . her favorite candy.

2 hours in 2 minutes Monday, February 2, 2009

Quick, make a video like this of your baby (or babies). 2 hours of play in 2 minutes.

big day for the babies Sunday, February 1, 2009

Ok i see some sudden activity on the blog... you're probably looking for some baby blessing photos. Yes, it was a big day for the twins. They got all decked out in their off-white (oh well) a-little-too-big-but-still-cute outfits, and headed to church.

We had a full house staying over last night, including Cindy, Kelsey, Kenzie, Candee, Jackson, Scott, Brenda, Nate, Matt, Zach... it would have been even more of a full house but Mark & Katy's twins got sick at the last minute, and so did a couple of Candee's kids.

As usual, our $10 drawing easel was a popular toy:

By the way, today James has a little scratch under his right eye, which should help you tell them apart in the photos, even in photos like this where their hair isn't showing:

Then it was off to church for the blessings. Jeremy, Jamie, & Kevin all made it just in the nick of time, which had Lisa a tad worried. The blessings went well... I blessed Henry and then James was blessed by his great grandpa Reid Robison.

Afterwards, we gathered at our place for some soup & sandwiches.

Nate & Matt got some baby holding practice:

Sylie helped make a cake, but then cried because it had to cook first:

Jamie thought Kelsey was Kevin's new girlfriend.

Taylor took care of disciplining mason:

Kevin was appalled

And the neighbor boy was scared that he might be next:

Actually, I'm kidding about taylor disciplining mason.. I was just randomly snapping pictures and happened to catch one of taylor holding on to him.

Mom has been requesting a family photo ever since the twins were born, but Lisa has been resisting. We finally took a few today:
