Amanda got her ears pierced today. Don't worry, just one hole in each ear. She didn't cry, and is so exited about her cute flower earrings.

Fall Saturday Sunday, September 24, 2006

Amanda had her first soccer game yesterday. She did pretty well considering her team is full of rowdy boys.

Dallin said he'd give her a dollar if she kicked the ball, so they went to the dollar store afterwards... Dallin's treat.

We went to the farmers market yesterday for some fresh fruits and vegetables. Here's a picture of the kids in a coloring contest. In the background is an interesting massage booth. It's called transcend dance or something, and if you pay for a massage, they put on some crazy music and 3 people massage give a massage while doing a wild dance.

We went to creekside park in the afternoon for a few holes of frisbee golf. There is an 18 hole course there and the kids did well at keeping pace with the groups in front and behind us. It was crowded.

Justin Blows out the candles

For Justin's Birthday we celebrated on Sunday and Monday. On Sunday night Jenny, Jason, Taylor, Cooper, Jeremy, Karenin, and Sylie came for a Greek dinner. We had pitas, chicken, hummas, yogurt sauce, greek salad. . .

The kids ate outside so that we could have some quiet. They all had fun playing together. Taylor and Emily practiced putting sand in eachothers hair in the sand box, and Dallin practiced being the police officer of the toddlers coming in every now and then and reporting a toddler crime.

For dessert, I made a chocolate chiffon cake filled with chocolate mousse. That was everybodys favorite included the babies who cried over not getting any.

The babies are getting so big. THey love to smile at anybody who talks to them.

The kids love to spend time with Dad

On Monday we ate out for dinner at Noodles and Co. Then after dinner we went up to Park City for a little Banana Republic Shopping. Reid Justin spent some birthday money there. Then we stopped at Wild Oats on the way home for some organic, very healthy cookies and other baked goods they have there. Once we got home Reid Justin opened his last present.
Justin is very into the kids lately. Right now he is taking a ceramics class with them. On Saturday he went to the PGA tournament with the older kids. He is always happy to take the older kids with him when he goes somewhere. He loves his psychiatry specialty and he love to be involved with projects that involve buildings (ie building a house in Park City). We love you Justin!

Great People

We meet so many wonderful people as we travel. Here are a few pictures:This is the Suriname Zone. These are our only Dutch speaking missionaries. They rarely leave Suriname and spend their entire mission trading companionships in the two cities covered by our mission. They get to be pretty good friends.

I love the art in Surinam. The paintings are contemporary and the wood carvings are phenomenal. Here is a view of the lobby of our hotel.

We held a fireside while we were in Surinam and met some of the members. The people are great. Here is shot of a 3rd generation church member.

These Surinamese boys will be missionaries some day.

More Great People

Here are the missionaries who serve in the South Island Zone. In this zone we have missionaries on the islands of Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent, and Grenada.

We hold Zone Conference in Barbados and Elders from other islands fly in to join us. We always give them a good lunch.

The Zone Leaders made a special t-shirt for their Elders.

The sign says quite, but the kids don't look quite

With emily's birthday 2 days ago, and mine in 2 days, we had to pack our Saturday full of fun activities. We spent the morning at a kids fair at UNI, and the afternoon at a PGA golf tournament.

The kids loved the fair. There was music, food, games, prizes. Taylor and Cooper came up also.

Dallin and Amanda loved the golf tournament. Kevin got us VIP tickets. We were watching the last few groups play through a par 3 and one of the players (Scott Peterson, 10 under par) walked up to dallin after making a birdie and gave him his golf ball (a titleist proV1).

A few minutes later one of the staff members asked Dallin and Amand if they wanted some water and a snack. The kids loved it and said "Everyone is so nice here".

We taught dallin what 'fore' means on the golf course, and here he is practicing what he would do if a ball came his way.

Emily turns 2 Friday, September 8, 2006

Yesterday was Emily's birthday. She's officially into the terrible 2 stage. This is a picture of Emily reaching to touch the fire on the candle instead of blowing it out.

Emily woke up before anyone else (like she always does), and got to watch Dora. She then opened her big present - a Dora kitchen.

She went swimming with her sister and her Mommy that morning, and then ate noo-noo's for dinner.

She had chocolate cupcakes for desert.

Her cousin Tessa gave her some Dora PJ's but the next morning she absolutely refused to take them off and then threw a fit for 10 minutes when her Mommy finally wrestled them off of her. Check out the video section for a brief clip of the tantrum 10 minutes after it began.

Amanda's First Day Tuesday, September 5, 2006

We were all so excited for Amanda to go to Kindergarten. She was so ready and getting bored at home. She will be going in the afternoons and her teachers name is Mrs. Landro. Mrs. Landro is an older teacher who only teaches the one kindergarden class (no morning). They get to do a field trip every month.

Amanda couldn't wait to wear her fun tights and cute orange skirt to school. I think I should have had her wear short sleeves, because it was 85 degrees when I dropped her off. As I said good bye to Amanda, there were some tears. . . but not by me or Amanda . . . EMILY! She didn't want to see her sister go somewhere without her. Pour Emily will just have one on one time with Mom. I can't wait!

Labor day weekend Sunday, September 3, 2006

We're in Boise this weekend. The kids are having a blast playing with eachother. On Saturday, we took the kids to the park and played doubles tennis, Robisons vs. Staleys. It was a close match.

That afternoon, I played golf with John while the girls and 7 kids went to the mall. Lisa and Joelle sure were lucky that they got to go shopping with all those kids. Lisa, Joelle and the older kids then went to see 'how to eat fried worms' at the theater and left me and John behind to take care of the little ones, Grace, Tessa and Emily. On their way home from the movie, Lisa was telling Joelle how she would eat a worm for $25. Amanda piped in and said "If someone told me to eat a worm, I'd say 'Not yet. Not until I see the money'"

The BYU football game was on, so John and I started watching it up in the TV room. After a few minutes, the house seemed too quiet so I went to check on the kids. The backdoor was opened, and there was no sign of kids or Sophie the dog. Uh oh. I went out in the backyard and noticed that the fence gate was wide open, still no sign of kids or dog. Big uh oh. I went around front and didn't see anyone, but seconds later Grace appeared out of the side yard of a home on the other side of the street, up the road a little, pulling the dog by the lease with little Tessa and Emily following behind. Emily was wearing only a diaper. Needless to say, we got in trouble for our lack of babysitting skills when the mothers came home.

Today at church Amanda and Grace went up hand in hand during sacrament meeting to bear their testimonies. Well it was just Amanda who spoke; Grace was there for emotional support. Amanda wasn't shy at all and said "I know this church is true, I'm thankful for my family, etc.." Julia went up a couple minutes later and did a great job. I guess Amanda had talked Grace into trying it so before long Amanda and Grace were walking back up there again, holding hands. Joelle and John had worried looks on their faces this time, and Grace just made a funny grunting/breathing noise into the microphone. She didn't say anything for a long moment and Amanda was able to talk her down calmly and they returned to their seats.

Amanda is reavealing our secrets. She rode in Joelle's van on the way to church and asked Joelle "Are you guys usually late or on-time? Because we are always late except for once when my Mommy had to give the opening prayer, then we were on time."
