emily had her halloween party today at preschool.. even though she has this super-cool poodle costume, she insisted on being a butterfly today. i guess variety is the spice of life.. who would want to wear the same costume twice anyway
so here she is:

woof Tuesday, October 21, 2008
They've been in our yard for 10 hours now, and counting. Casey doesn't even bark anymore.. They're like his family now.
But moose are old news. Ask Lisa about the mouse she found in the engine of her minivan while it was running (just after she ran out of gas).

Twin Baby Shower Monday, October 13, 2008
Saturday I had my baby shower. Jenny and Karenin put it on. Jenny made wonderful crepes, and they both brought toppings. We had nutella, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and strawberries. I made my favorite cucumber lime punch and did a few decorations. We played a couple of games, such as pin the babies onto Lisa tummy, and then opened presents. It was so much fun. Thanks to everyone who came and especially thanks to Jenny and Karenin!
Here is a picture of all my great "bus stop" friends and I. I look huge in this pix, but I couldn't leave them out.
My Mom and I.
Diapers and Wipes drop.

My next door neighbor Lisa playing pin the babies on my tummy. She is the one that made the beautiful diaper cake.

baby shower advisory in effect
for those of you heading up to the baby shower today- Yes, we did get snow... goodbye beautiful fall weather.
and Yes, it did affect the road conditions
but it has slowed down considerably and the freeway is just fine now.
The snow on our street has almost melted, but to be safe you can always just call us from the gas station for a shuttle pick up.
So that's our weather update...
Meanwhile, Lisa has been busy spray painting weeds baby blue as decorations
And here's a little video clip of our view from the breakfast table the other morning. It was kind of funny because casey wouldn't stop barking at them, and the mamma moose (aka cow) would kind of charge at him to scare him off..
Other news to share:
- someone backed into my car with a big chevy tahoe while my car was sitting in a parking lot:
- emily has been hard at work perfecting self-portraits at her arts and dance preschool
quick crusty bread Wednesday, October 8, 2008
'Quick' is relative, I suppose. When it comes to good crusty bread, it still can't be too rushed. A year or two ago, we posted a bread recipe that has become a family favorite every since. Well, today in the new york times the same author that wrote about the first one came out with a speedier version -- one that doesn't require 14 hours to raise. This one only requires you to plan 4-5 hrs in advance... yipee
Quicker European Bread
via nyt
3 c bread flour
1 packet (1/4 oz) instant yeast
1 1/2 t salt
1 1/2 c water
Combine everything. Stir until blended. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit at room temp for 4 hrs. Put it on your work surface and fold it over once or twice. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rest 30 min. Preheat oven to 450 and put in a 6-8 quart heavy pot (i.e ceramic, pyrex, cast iron, etc.) with a lid, and let the pot heat in the oven. When dough is ready, dust the pot with corn meal and slide the dough in. Bake with lid on for 30 min then with lid off for 15 more. Enjoy your beautifully crusty golden brown bread.
For a whole wheat version, try this:
2 c whole wheat flour
1/2 c rye flour
1/2 c corn meal
1 t instant yeast
1 1/2 t salt
Let rise 4 hrs, then fold a couple times, then let sit for another full hour. The rest is the same.

twin story Tuesday, October 7, 2008
true story:
Jack Yufe and Oskar Stohr are identical twins, reared apart, one by his Jewish father in Trinidad, the other by his Catholic grandmother in nazi Germany. The were reunited in their 40's as part of a twin study in Minnesoate and were surprised to discover that they were both wearing rectangular wire-frame glasses, short mustaches, and blue two-pocket shirts. Both enjoyed spicy foods and read magazines from back to front. Both wore rubber bands around their wrist, and both were in the habit of flushing the toilet before and after using it. And both of them enjoyed sneezing in elevators just to startle people and see their reaction.

Super Power! Sunday, October 5, 2008

My sister Candee gave me a gift certificate to get a nursing top from expressiva.com. This is the T-shirt I came across. If you can't read it, it say, "I make milk, what's your superpower?"

28 Weeks and Counting

I am now 28 weeks. I have 8 weeks and 3 days left til I know they will induce me. I have been feeling very good. I have to rest a lot and sitting doesn't count. I am so excited about General Conference this weekend, because I will get to lay down while I watch it. The babies are about 3 lbs now. The worst part of being so pregnant right now is how my hands fall asleep while I am sleeping. Last night I woke up and I couldn't even move 2 of my fingers until I moved my arm over to let the blood flow back to them. All and all, things are going great.
The picture of me out on the deck is at 28 weeks. The one inside is almost 24 weeks. They don't look very different, but I do know that I only have 1 more inch before my belly touches the steering wheel of the car.

Grandpa's Other Birthday
My Dad got his stem cell transplant on Tuesday, after a huge dose of Chemo on Monday. When they gave him his stem cells back, they do a little birthday celebration. First they gave him a sucker to suck on while they put the stem cells back. I guess the chemicals they keep his stem cells in to preserve them, leave him with a metallic taste in his mouth. Then they wished him a happy birthday and gave him a birthday balloon. They still have the balloon in their apartment.
I saw my Dad a couple times this week. He is mostly tired. The Dr. told him yesterday that this next week will be the worst of his life. I guess it take a couple weeks for the stems cells to get back to work. Mom is also tired. Last night she had a rough night.
The picture of my parents is at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building when we had lunch at the roof. The picture of my Dad and I is from a couple months ago when he was hospitalized for his ulcer. Notice his strong muscles! Those must be from the years of waterskiing. GO DAD!
